In times past greenhouses were always lined with glass, nowadays Polycarbonate sheets have become more popular for lining (cladding) greenhouses.

Polycarbonate sheets have multiple benefits, below is a list of reasons why we think Polycarbonate should be on the outside of your next greenhouse.  🥕

Durability

Polycarbonate is more durable and forgiving than glass.  If you are in the backyard practising your chip shots for the golf course and one of your balls hits the side of your greenhouse it will bounce back.  Whereas with glass we all know that the window would shatter and make one big mess.

Expense

Glass is a lot more expensive than Polycarbonate which allows us to keep our prices down and build them off site, and if for some reason you have to replace a sheet it is substantially easier to replace and work with.

Light

The transmission of light through the sheets is going to be much better than with glass which means the natural light will spread to every corner of you greenhouse.  This will help extend your growing season! 👍

UV Protection

The polycarbonate sheets give a high protection against the sun’s UV radiation.  The polycarbonate is a natural ultraviolet filter so its not too harsh on your plants. Glass lets in a lot of direct light as it is clear, Polycarbonate distorts the light as it comes in. Plants prefer this ‘diffused light’, as the harsh direct light can scorch them, plus the direct light makes the greenhouse hotter.

Our Polycarbonate sheets have a 99.5% 4th generation UV protection.

Weight

Even though it’s strong, Polycarbonate is light. This means we are able to build the greenhouses as a flatpack and then deliver and install it in your garden with ease – this also means you can easily take it with you if you need to move (without having to rebuild the whole thing), or find a better location for it in the garden.

Low maintenance:

It doesn’t require as much regular cleaning like glass – once or twice a year will be great, we find once enough for ours.
