Surviving Cyclone Gabrielle

Well what a wild couple of weeks it’s been with Cyclone Gabrielle launching a full on assault on the North Island.  We’ve all seen the heart breaking destruction on the news and doing the rounds on social media. The Hawkes Bay was really hammered and has a long road to recovery ahead.

We were really fortunate here in Nuhaka, the wind was coming from the south east so we had a bit of protection from the wind from the trees on our shelter belt.  We had a lot of rain and the river overflowed onto our bottom paddock but luckily not too much.  Our neighbours paddocks were not so lucky and currently have a couple of feet of silt spread out over the grass.  Its quite a sight!

We’ve reached out to all our customers to see if they are okay and fortunately they are.  There were a couple of close calls but everyone has survived relatively unscathed.

We are really proud to say that none our greenhouses that we have installed around the country sustained any damage.  We were particularly worried about a recent install we did for Mark in Taranaki.  New Plymouth airport recorded gusts up to 128km an hour, some of the strongest in the country!  We had reinforced Marks greenhouse for being located in a high wind zone but still I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little anxious about it holding up against Cyclone Gabrielle.

With all the networks down we had to wait five days to connect with Mark and hear the good news that he and his family were safe and his greenhouse was not only still standing but hadn’t moved an inch and had no damage.  To say were were stoked would be an under statement.

When we post and advertise on FB we quite often get a lot of comments from people saying how they’ll just blow over in the wind and won’t survive the first storm.  It’s hard to portray in pics and clips just how strong they are.  The have literally been engineered to withstand the worst of worst of New Zealand weather.

We have already had couple of orders from people who have ordered the metal kit set greenhouse online and had them blown over and permanently damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle.

If you are thinking about future proofing your garden and food supply get in touch and start thriving with a Nutopia Greenhouse.  ( we deliver and install!! )
